FAMY – Ava (single) (Transgressive Records)

Following the release of their debut EP Donkey earlier this year, West London indie/alt-folk quintet FAMY have shared a brand new track entitled Ava along with a video for the track.

And whoooah, what a heartfelt number it is.

Right from the very beginning with just banjo and vocal, goosebumps form; like watching ripples on the sea, you sense the waves coming.

During the opening verse the vocals are reminiscent of Luke Pritchard from The Kooks but become more and more heartfelt with every word.

Building quickly in timbre and tension, before the first minute is up we arrive at the chorus where is met with percussive drum pounds and football crowd “oh-oh-oh-woah” chants. Of course, Bastille’s Pompeii comes to mind here but Ava is actually more folky than it is indie-pop. There’s also a soaring, cinematic quality to the tune that makes it all quite moving.

An excellent first taste of the band’s upcoming EP Ava, which features the title track, Ava Epilogue, Peter Pan, and Have You Ever Seen The Rain. The Eva EP will be released on 21 July, 2014.

Pre-order the 12″ vinyl release and/or pre-order the digital EP via iTunes.
