SLK – Pour (single) (Prism)
SLK is the moniker for the new London alt-soul songstress who recently released her debut EP Forms (artwork above) and which has been understandably been championed by Huw Stephens as BBC Introducing Tip of The Week on Radio 1.
Track #5 Pour has been lifted off the EP and is currently doing the rounds.
Pour is a deep and dark bass-heavy track with soulful R&B-inflected vocals. The production work by Embody is particularly pleasing to the ear with murky atmospherics, low rumbling bass, and slow trip-hop beats all combining to create an allure similar to that of FKA Twigs, musically.
But it’s not at about the production, Pour also showcases melody and pop smarts.
SLK’s sensual vocals are double-tracked adding smoothness and warmth while the pitch-shifted vocals throughout the track make Pour very much the sound of now.
SLK is a promising talent to keep a close eye on.
The Form EP featuring Pour was released 26 May 2014 and is available via iTunes now.
