Liu Bei – Infatuation / Atlas World (single) (paradYse/Transgressive Records)

Liu Bei - Infatuation

Last month we reviewed the A-side of the upcoming debut single from London’s Liu Bei entitled Infatuation (read our review).

An achingly beautiful and moving track, throughout the song’s 3:32 duration, Infatuation barely shifted key or changed dynamic, but instead built with emotionally intensity. Showcasing hints of Mazzy Star with the raw intensity of the first Glasvegas record, the A-side single was both a fully formed song and a mood piece.

In anticipation of the single’s release next month, Liu Bei (pronounced “Lou Bay”) have just shared the b-side Atlas World.

The b-side certainly has more of an indie-rock feel to it with an uptempo vocal melody and rhythmic guitar work but Bombay Bicycle Club this is not. Not for the faint of heart, Atlas World is another emotionally heavy, melancholic tune delivered with heartbreaking earnestness.

Like Infatuation, despite it being saturated in reverb, Atlas World shimmers with a uniquely atmospheric production and may be in fact the catchier of the two tracks.

Gosh, just two tracks in and our attention is completely fixed on Liu Bei.

Infatuation / Atlas World is out via paradYse/Transgressive Records on 7 July,  2014 and will be available digitally and as a limited edition vinyl 7″. Pre-order the 7″ or pre-order the digital release.
