Exciting, new electronic producer, Oceaán will be releasing his debut, self-titled EP through Chess Club Records next month. In the interim, he has revealed the first track, To Lose which follows the unveiling of Oceaán’s debut track from last year entitled, Need U.
Born in Brussels and spending the formative years of his life in Belgium and Denmark before relocating to Manchester, Oceaán’s brand of electronica is smooth and soulful with hints of R&B, sharing most in common with SBTRKT. Already Oceaán’s work has seen him sought by other artists including the excellent Woman’s Hour, as well as label mate, MØ.
The sound is rhythmically textured with thick, warm pads contrasted by some stylish electro-production touches. Check out the song’s final 30 seconds which is coated with distortion and a swarming, ducking effect.
To Lose also showcases Oceaán’s pop sensibilities with the track being driven by a soulful vocal that calls to mind Sampha crossed with James Blake.
Definitely one to watch in 2014.
The debut self-titled EP from Oceaán will be released on 31 March, 2014.
