Tinashe – Vulnerable (Jacuzzi Remix) (single) (RCA Records / Sony)

Hot off the heels of Jacuzzi’s incredibly inspired debut EP, Mizu, which netted over 10,000 downloads via Jacuzzi.fm and garnered support from the likes of Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Chase & Status, Sinjin Hawke, and many others, comes an official remix for RCA Records of Tinashe’s hit song, Vulnerable.

Though he has a limited number of releases under his own name, 18-year old Hawaiian artist, Jacuzzi, aka Ryan York, has quickly risen to prominence following a Hypem #1 remix of Santigold’s “Disparate Youth” and a successful collaboration with fellow Hawaiian Mr. Carmack.

One listen to the Mizu EP and it’s immediately clear that this kid possesses crazy production skills and the ability to craft interesting and complex arrangements. Jacuzzi seamlessly blends several electronic genres including trap and future bass, all culminating in a fresh and exciting sound impossible to pigeonhole.

Jacuzzi’s remix of Tinashe’sVulnerable” is a brilliant trap-inspired reworking. Where the Tinashe original is a dark and sexy R&B tune (think Aaliyah) radiating a similar allure to the hotly tipped, FKA twigs, his tasteful remix emphasizes the song’s groove.

Backed by a solid, TR-808 trap-beat, Jacuzzi puts his stamp on the tune by adding a pitch-shifted, choppy violin to the track, which is then pushed to forefront of the mix. Within seconds the listener is sent into a involuntarily sway.

Jacuzzi also demonstrates some impressive vocal production work including warping, delay and reverb saturation, which is used to intertwine and colour Tinashe’s original.

At just 2 minutes and 23 seconds, the remix is over before you know. Yet, despite its short duration, Jacuzzi manages to find the time to apply a peculiar twist adding brass to the track’s final 30 seconds. This little surprise only adds to Jacuzzi’s genius.

At the time of posting, Jacuzzi is offering a free download of the track via Soundcloud.
