Thumpers – Galore (single) (True Say Recordings)
To say London alt-pop act THUMPERS had a 2013 would be an understatement. The duo released three singles, toured with Everything Everything and CHVRCHES , performed at the Reading and Leeds festivals, recorded live sessions for Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and 6Music’s Lauren Laverne and, last but not least, signed to Sub Pop in North America for their debut album.
Marcus Pepperell (vocals, guitar, keys) and John Hamson Jr. (drums, vocals, bass), professionally known as Thumpers – have now confirmed their next single “Galore” will be released on 24th February.
Written on the lyrical theme of exploratory, guilt-free hedonism, “Galore” fuses sunny alt-pop with funk and indie-rock and while comparison can be made to Friendly Fires and Everything, Everything, the new single has a charm not unlike that of Theme Park (read our review of the debut self-titled album from Theme Park released in March 2013).
The song’s colorful and hook-laden chorus is made up of layers of smooth vocals backed by a fat, groovy bass line and rythmic drum shuffle.
“Galore” is undoubtedly pop but it’s also full of quirks to keep it interesting, from guitar noodling and glistening keys to an atmospheric bed made of field recordings which Jordan captured in London, Warwickshire and Petra over a year-long period.
It’s fairly safe to say that 2014 is sure to be another big year for Thumpers.
The single “Galore” will be released on 24 February, 2014 in the U.K. via True Say Recordings while the band’s album of the same name will be released in the U.S. release on 11 February, 2014 on Sub Pop.
