RÜFÜS – Desert Night (De$ignated Remix) (Columbia Records)

“Desert Night” by Australian trio RÜFÜS is an absolute monster of a tune and has already been remixed by a slew of DJ’s including the brilliant Avon Stringer remix, the excellent and smooth Jesse Rose remix, as well as Motez, and James Curd. This song is seemingly everywhere right now.

Following the number one chart success of RÜFÜS’ debut album, ‘ATLAS’ in their native country last year as well two ARIA award nominations and a #1 spot on the Hype Machine chart, the album is now set to be released in the UK on 28 April, 2014 via Columbia Records.

In the interim, South London female electronic duo, De$ignated have remixed the track and – holy crap! – this remix is an absolute killer too.

Focusing on the song’s deep elements, this slightly darkened, bass-heavy remix is designed to get bodies on the dance-floor pronto.  From 1:05, when the tubular sounding bass drops, there’s no looking back!

Combined with its straight-up, driving house beats, as with the aforementioned Avon Stringer remix, De$ignated done a superb job in capitalizing on the song’s natural grooves.

The addition of 80’s synth melodies adds another quirky as does the brilliant chopped up vocals from 2:35 – 3:35.

Brilliant stuff of surely one of the biggest tunes for 2014.
