Ambassadeurs – Make Me (single) (Pilot Records)
Brighton’s Mark Dobson, p/k/a Ambassadeurs, caps a fine year with his latest production, “Make Me”. Sampling the chorus of “U Sure Do” by Strike – one of the biggest dance songs of the 90’s – Ambassadeurs pitch shifts the vocal into obscurity, drops the tempo and manages to create something entirely his own.
Impeccably produced, “Make Me” is a glistening future bass tune that incorporates dub, bass, electronica and hip-hop while exuding strong 80’s characteristics thanks to its fat Juno synths and TR-808 style electro beats.
“Make Me” retains the pop elements and accessibility of “U Sure Do” but at the same time mixes in ample amounts of left field quirks to keep the listener deeply engaged. There are also some darker elements which echo throughout but its the sunny vibes from the the sample that resonate the most.
Ambassadeurs’ approach to electronic music as evidenced on this year’s ‘Alone In The Night’ and ‘Trouble’ EPs brought him acclaim from many magazines and blogs including Mixmag and This is Fake DIY. The EP’s, combined with his remixes for labels such as Tru Thoughts, Ninja Tune, Moshi Moshi, Fat Cat, and Wah Wah 45s, resulted in over 1 million Soundcloud plays.
“Make Me” will be released for free next week via the Ambassadeurs website before droping his next full EP for Pilot in February 2014.
