MTNS – Salvage (single) (Create/Control)

Today, November 22, Brisbane trio MTNS released their debut EP, ‘Salvage’ and have simultaneously shared the single of the same name.

“Salvage” follows the electo-pop act’s debut single, “Lost Track Of Time” (read our review) from earlier this year, which climbed the Hype Machine chart quickly surmounting 50K plays. Its textured and lush synth-scapes exhibited an M83 style dreaminess combined with the kind of knack for smooth, pop vocal hooks shown on the latest Moderat record (read our review of the excellent ‘Moderat II’ album).

Though slightly less immediate and more restrained than”Lost Track Of Time”, the emotive, downtempo new single continues to showcase the young band’s pop songwriting skills which is backed by a lush electro production.

Just as important as the choice of synth patches is the sparsity of the track, which allows the emotion to really seep in and for the softened vocals to lead the song.

Glorious, heartfelt stuff. We suspect there’ll be lot of talk about MTNS in 2014.

MTNS’ debut EP, ‘Salvage’, was released today, 22 November, 2013.
