Botany – Simple Creatures (featuring RYAT) (single) (Western Vinyl)

After much praise for the first single from his upcoming debut album Lava Diviner (Truestory)‘, Texan electronic artist and producer, Botany has revealed a new track entitled “Simple Creatures”.

Following 2010’s quietly applauded ‘Feeling Today’ EP the upcoming album is the product of a lengthy gestation period. Lava Diviner (Truestory) follows Botany on an personal journey as he makes his way home within himself, returning to his celestial centre.

Loosely a concept album documenting a religious sect that prays for a volcano to erupt, Spencer Stephenson p/k/a Botany says, “As work on the record progressed, I began to realize that the musical journey was a direct reflection of my most hard-to-quantify life experiences. ‘Lava Diviner’ is about very real transformations in my being, so it’s a true story in that sense… I always imagined my first album being like a volcano, with years of pent-up emotion and musical ideas bubbling up to a cathartic release. So, I always knew that symbolism would end up being a part of my first full-length.

The new track, “Simple Creatures”, features Los Angeles singer/songwriter RYAT, who released her album through Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label last year, on vocals.

A dreamy delight – sit back, throw on some headphones and let the track take you on a journey.

“Simple Creatures” is a soft and lush collage of wooded instruments and atmospheric elements while a simple but solid beat lays down the foundation to keeps things moving.

Layers of dreamy and atmospheric synths and effects swirl in, out and about, as does RYAT’s vocals which exhibit a Björk-like quality. Alluring and inviting, “Simple Creatures” also exhibits a hint of 70’s psych.

The album ‘Lava Diviner (Truestory)’ will be released on 29 October, 2013 through Western Vinyl. In the interim, Botany is currently offering “Simple Creatures (featuring RYAT)” as a free download via Soundcloud.
