Holly Walker – Hurt Me (single) (self-released)
Walker has already built a loyal following via her own independent releases as well via support from fellow artists such as Bastille and music tastemakers like OneTaste Collective (Jamie Woon, Jono McCleery, Little Dragon). The London-born singer/songwriter is a classically trained pianist with a gorgeous and distinctive voice. Thus, it’s no surprise that Holly Walker has quickly become a much-in-demand guest vocalist collaborating with a largely diverse range of artists including Crystal Fighters, and indie-folk outfit To Kill A King. However, it was Holly’s vocals on electronic duo Maribou State’s brilliant ‘Tongue’ single a few months back that brought her to the attention of a much wider audience.
Her new track “Hurt Me” is a stunning, dark and complex little number which continues Walker’s tradition of keeping listeners guessing her next move. Sleek, sexy, and mysterious with an air of tension, “Hurt Me” effortlessly toes the line of trip-hop, electronica, and jazz.
With its stunning production courtesy of Ben Jackson (To Kill A King), “Hurt Me” is truly candy for the ears with rich piano, low rumbling bass, and side-stick jazz drumming. Then of course there’s Walker’s breathtakingly gorgeous vocals which seamlessly straddle smooth soul and folk sweetness with jazz inflections.
An absolute stunning number which confirms Holly Walker’s big bright future.
