Sam Smith – Nirvana (Two Inch Punch Promised Land Remix) (single) (PMR Records)

U.K. electro-soul singer Sam Smith is getting ready to release his debut 4-track EP entitled ‘Nirvana’ (artwork above) but in the interim, Ben Ash, who releases music under the name Two Inch Punch and who a few months ago was The Guardian’s ‘New Band of the Day, has reworked the EP’s title track.

At the beginning of August we reviewed the track “Safe With Me” as well as Sam Smith’s acoustic version of Disclosure’s “Latch” back in May. Those 2 tracks along with “I’ve Told You Now (acoustic version)” and the title track, “Nirvana” make up the new EP.

An ever soulful R&B tune, “Nirvana (Two Inch Punch Promised Land Remix)” begins with lullaby chime arpeggio and Smith’s distinctive, soulful vocals. Within 60 seconds we’re into the first chorus, which is stripped back before a sub-bass and huge kick arrive for the second verse. By the time the second chorus rolls around, you’ll be rocking back and forth singing at the top of your lungs.

Melodic with hooks galore, “Nirvana (Two Inch Punch Promised Land Remix)” has all the trademarks we’ve come to love from Smith but tastefully flavoured with some classy dubstep production techniques.

‘Nirvana’ will be released on 4 October, 2013 via PMR Records. Pre-order now.
