The Scholars – Neon Sky [Stars] (single) (self-released)

“Neon Sky (Stars)” is the new single from Oxford based indie-rock 3-piece, The Scholars.

Since forming in 2008, the trio have received play on BBC Radio 1 and BBC6 as well as securing support slots alongside Two Door Cinema Club, The Boxer Rebellion and Chapel Club.

“Neon Sky (Stars)” is very much in the style of The Killers circa ‘Hot Fuss and the aforementioned Chapel Club with hints of The Chameleons, and early Editors.

80’s-inspired synths combine with melodic indie-guitar lines, a driving post-punk bass line and danceable, disco-beat drum rhythms while vocally The Scholars sound like a cross between Brandon Flowers and Mark Burgess of The Chameleons.

While their sound is post-punk influenced, there is no doubting the pop influence. The songcraft here is absolutely top notch and refined down to a T.

The Scholars don’t get any points for breaking new ground here but “Neon Sky (Stars)” is a solid and thoroughly enjoyable track. Here’s hoping there’s more good stuff from the trio on the way.

The single will be released on 30 September, 2013. Pre-order via iTunes now.
