Ides – Prisms (single) (Art Is Hard Records)

London singer and songwriter Alanna McArdle, under the alias of Ides, has released a brand new track in the form of “Prisms” through the Art Is Hard Postcard Club.

Alanna’s voice has recently come to prominence through her work with A Grave With No Name and her C86 inspired band, Joanna Gruesome. Prior to this, McArdle was also the bassist in Evans The Death.

The new single, “Prisms” follows the release of Ides’ debut EP, ‘Songs About Love / Hate‘, which was released earlier this year.

With just McArdle’s breathy and fragile vocal paired with a clean-tone electric guitar doused heavily in reverb, “Prisms” is a naked and vulnerable but breathtakingly gorgeous tune.

The C86 influence that’s heard in Joanna Gruesome can also be found here, but more subtle, as well as traces of Suzanne Vega. Yes, there’s something deeply nostalgic about “Prisms”.

But it is its simplicity, honesty and lyrical vulnerability that are the song’s strongest appeal, making for a captivating listen.

The single ‘Prisms’ is available now through Art Is Hard Records.
