Destructo – Higher (single) (Boysnoize Records)

Unless you’ve been holed away without access to radio or internet, chances are you’ve heard “Higher” – the new single from Los Angeles mega producer and DJ, Destructo.

Gary Richards, p/k/a Destructo, began DJing and producing in the early 90s in Los Angeles. Legendary producer, Rick Rubin handpicked Gary for A&R in electronic music at Def American Recordings, launching a noteworthy career with such acts as Lords of Acid, Messiah, David Holmes, Basement Jaxx, Dub Pistols, God Lives Underwater. As if those credentials weren’t impressive enough, Richards also masterminded the massive, U.S. electronic music festival, HARD back in 2007.

The new single is a nod to Grandmaster Flash and has all the hallmarks of a certified house classic. Mixing the aesthetics of vintage house with a smattering of current electronic music production tools, “Higher” uses melodic strings and a simple but ever so catchy vocal sample and hook to give the track a bona fide 70’s funk flavour.

With one foot in the past and one foot in the now, you get the distinct feeling the timelessness of the tune will ensure its around for many years to come and one that will be revived time and time again.

The single, “Higher” was released 10 June, 2013 and is available now.
