Editors – A Ton Of Love (single) (Kitchenware Records)

Here it is folks – the brand new single from Editors, “A Ton of Love”.

We’ve not heard from the Birmingham post-punk quartet since the 2010 non-album single “No Sound But The Wind“, and in between that a lot has changed internally including the departure of guitarist and founding member, Chris Urbanowicz.

Many wondered what direction the band’s music would take. On “A Ton of Love” Editors leave behind the synths and electronics of 2009’s ‘In This Light and On This Evening‘ and have returned to the original set-up of guitars, drums and bass. However, ‘The Back Room‘ this is not. No, the usually bleak sounding Editors are glowing like never before.

Poppier and more immediately hooky than ever before, “A Ton of Love” sends a great big nod to Echo and The Bunnymen while it’s massive stadium-size chorus recalls Simple Minds.

How this first single fits in with the rest of the record will be most interesting.

“A Ton Of Love” is the first taken from Editors forthcoming album ‘The Weight Of Your Love’ (cover art above), which will be released on 1 July, 2013 on Kitchenware Records.
