Is Tropical – Dancing Anymore (single) (Kitsuné/PIAS/Cooperative Music)

Only hours after receiving the link for the video to accompany the new single by Is Tropical, You Tube had it yanked! Graphic would be an understatement. In fact, we were literally gawping as to how they could even get the video onto You Tube in the first place.

The porn and gore spattered boyhood fantasy was directed by Parisian hotshots Megaforce and is the follow up to their previous collaboration on the now infamous “The Greeks” video (clocking up almost 3,500,000 plays to date on YouTube). As much as we’d love to show the video for “Dancing Anymore”, you’ll have to settle for audio only (listen below).

“Dancing Anymore” is the first single from the trio’s upcoming second album, ‘I’m Leaving’ – the follow up to 2011’s ‘Native To’. Produced by seasoned pro and friend of the band Luke Smith (Depeche Mode, Foals), the new single features a duet between Gary Barber and his girlfriend – one of many tracks on the record that, for the first time, feature a female vocal (the rest are provided by Ellie Fletcher from Crystal Fighters).

Ironically, despite its intense video, “Dancing Anymore” is actually a fun-filled, hook-laden indie-pop number. Slickly produced, the new single combines indie-rock guitars, danceable beats, layers of synths, tasty electronics, and big, fat synth-bass lines to create a sound that sits comfortably alongside say, The Big Pink.

The female vocal chants of “no, I won’t, no I won’t” throughout the verses provide the song’s strongest hook – guaranteed to immediately take hold – while Gary’s vocals are as cool as a breeze.

An entertaining and catchy little number, “Dancing Anymore” is the most refined and the most pop we’ve heard Is Tropical to date.

“Dancing Anymore” will be released as a single on 13 May, 2013 with the album, ‘I’m Leaving’, following on 20 May, 2013.
