My Bloody Valentine – MBV (album) (self-released)
Without further ado, and just as the band’s singer-songwriter and producer, Kevin Shields promised us at the end of last year, the new My Bloody Valentine album – their first since 1991’s seminal and quintessential shoegaze album, Loveless – is finally here (along with an official website to boot!). Sure, it was meant to come out on Tuesday or Wednesday, but hey we’ve waited this long…
Fans on Twitter and Facebook are going absolutely nuts for it at the time of writing. After all today, Sunday 4th February 2013, the brand new 9-song album from the shoegaze legends has finally seen the light of day. No grand marketing plan, teasers or anything of the sort, this morning we woke to a brand new MBV record.
So, what’s like? It’s perfect. It’s everything you’d expect. As if no time has passed at all, ‘M B V’ is the perfect follow up record to ‘Loveless’. In fact the large majority of material would fit seamlessly onto ‘Loveless’ without a problem.
All the dreaminess, all the trippiness, all the noise, all the backward-sounding, warping and whirring is here in all its glory.
What else can one say? It’s a beautiful and brilliant masterpiece and well worth the wait.
