Atoms For Peace – Judge Jury and Executioner (single) (XL Recordings)

Following the release of the single “Default” back in September (read our review), a new track from electronic supergroup Atoms For Peace has surfaced online today entitled “Judge Jury and Executioner”.

“Judge Jury and Executioner” is taken from the forthcoming Atoms For Peace album, Amok (cover art above). A mid-paced number set around a funky repetitive bass line and electro beats made up of handclaps and kick-drum pulses.

Without shifting in key or dynamic, the song’s greatest strength lies in Yorke’s gorgeously melodic and catchy vocal lines.  In places, the vocals are drenched in reverb adding a haunting and atmospheric touch.

Meanwhile the acoustic guitar and its melody, which is introduced from 0:50, bring with it beauty, delicacy, and adds an organic element to counter the electronics.

Though less magnificent than “Default“, “Judge Jury and Executioner” is an easily digestible, funky little number that in all truth wouldn’t be out of place on the last Radiohead album (2011’s ‘The King of Limbs‘) but further whets our appetite for the band’s full length album.

The album ‘Amok’ is set for release on February 25, 2013 (February 26, 2013 in the U.S) and is now available to pre-order from the Atoms For Peace store.
