Theme Park – Jamaica (single) (Transgressive Records)

On the 13th of August 2012, London based 4-piece, Theme Park will release their new single “Jamaica” (digitally and as a limited edition 7″) through the brilliant Transgressive Records whose impressive roster, of course, already includes Foals, Mystery Jets, Two Door Cinema Club, and The Antlers amongst others.

Less indie-rock and less funky than the band’s earlier single “Milk”, which was released back in December 2011, “Jamaica” is a brilliant, feel good pop song that emits cool, summery vibes as well as echoes of nostalgia.

Infusing hints of The MaccabeesFriendly Fires, and Talking Heads, “Jamaica” is a landscape of jangly rhythmic guitars, funky bass, shimmering synths, steady grooves and a cool, smooth vocal reminiscent in places of, oddly enough, Michael Hutchence (INXS).

A certain favourite to be the summer hit for 2012, “Jamaica” is lifted off the band’s forthcoming debut album, which is quickly shaping up to be what looks like one of next year’s finest.
