TOY – Motoring (single) (Heavenly Recordings)

‘Motoring’ is the second single from the much-hyped London five piece, TOY who formed in 2010.

While it’s easy to compare TOY to fellow Londoners ‘S.C.U.M.’ and ‘The Horrors’ who they share a lot in common with sonically and aesthetically, ‘Motoring’ is a brilliant slice of krautrock and shoegaze-inspired, psychedelic indie rock in its own right.

The single moves along in a way that is reminiscent of  the band ‘Neu!’, in a haze of lo-fi guitars, keys, and that steady, almost one-dimensional, up-tempo drum beat, held for the duration of the song. Vocally, singer/guitarist Tom Dougall has a similar style to ‘The Strokes’ and ‘The Horrors’ ”, which fits the music like a glove .

Comparisons can also be made to ‘Swervedriver’, ‘Ash’ and ‘Echo and The Bunnymen’; the latter for their ability of often creating “pop” hooks that initially seem understated yet always finds a way of taking up home in your brain.

Complete with its summery vocal “aahhhhhhhs”, ‘Motoring’ is bound to be a favourite on the festival circuit this year and more than whets the appetite for the band’s self-titled debut album set for release on the10th of September.

The single is available  was released on April 23rd and is available on 7″ vinyl and download through Heavenly Recordings.
